The birth of "Los Tomeguines"

It was close to lunch time that I entered in the world of Boxer. That day, as a coincidence, was also born my very dear Rex. In the moment that my friend Lilian Raucoules opened the door of her house, I couldn't have the slightest idea that July the 25th of 1999 was coming to be one of the most remarkable days of my life.

A short time before I had decided to procure a boxer to guard the house, and also, at the same time, to be a friend of my children in their plays. I talked to Mrs. Raucoules, owner of "Vallée D'Oulja" kennel, and we agreed to visit her and have a look at her newest aviable litter, as soon as they reach one month old.

She was refearing to a litter Q de la Vallée D'Oulja whose parents were the multi-champion Caruso di Soragna and Oasis de la Vallée D'Oulja. All the puppies were brindles, and I wanted a male fawn, my friend asked to wait a little bit for the next litter from Myrea de la Vallée D'Oulja, which was about to happen.

It was destiny who decided in that night the birth of the litter R de la Vallée D'Oulja. They were five beautiful fawn puppies, sons of multi-champion Baron-Rojo de Villaba and Myrea de la Vallée D'Oulja, among which, the only male was a very strong one who came to this world with an amazing weigth of 670g.

It was Rex de la Vallée D'Oulja, my first boxer. One of those who everyday shows the greatest qualities of this race. One of those who became a simple desire into a deep passion.

That day was born our very first Rex, but it was not all at all! Among nine brindle puppies from litter Q, were two female puppies: Quenelle and Quikinou de la Vallée D'Oulja, which a short time later were going to become the first boxers of "Los Tomeguines".

It was also in that summer day that I saw for the first time a beautiful male named Opium de la Vallée D'Oulja, in that very moment was destined to be a father of the first litter of "Los Tomeguines".

Still on that unforgettable day I had the priviledge of meeting Sres. Eugénio Gago e Lilian Raucoules personally, founders of portuguese Boxer Club, boxer breeders for more than a quarter of a century and undoubtedly one of the highest and most respectful personalities in the world of boxer.

That day, I had the honor of meeting Mr. Jose Maria Olmo and Marco Antonio Ruiz, two Spanish breeders, whom I appreciate lots their advices and recommendations.

Sunning up, July 25th of 1999 was born the best dog I ever had, and one I will never take apart from my heart, was born a boxerist, was born "Los Tomeguines".

Why "Los Tomeguines"

TomeguinThe "tomeguin" is a small son-bird, endemic from the magic island of Cuba. I mean, the tomeguin is one more of those treasures capable of being found in the bigger island of Antillas.

When I was a kid, one sunny day, my grandma offered me a cage with a couple of tomeguins in it. It was a wonderful cage, so it had four traps which permitted me to capture more birds which approached to the cage because of the singing of the couple of tomeguins.

No doubt, it was one of the best gifts I never had. I lived in the city, but every time I had chance to visit the farm of my grands I did it. I usually took the cage to a tree, I laid at the shadows and enjoyed catching those living jewels.

Sometimes I did it alone, but others I was accompanied by my cousins, my brother, my friends, my uncles and even by my parents. I remember these days as the happiest of my life.

For me "Los Tomeguines" are the end of an important phase of my existence, being a synonym of beauty, perfection and authenticity. These are the characteristics that we wish to put in the Boxers from "Los Tomeguines"
